French prosecutor orders Galtier to jail and fine 45,000 euros

After a series of investigations, prosecutors in Nice, France, ordered the imprisonment of Al Duhail coach Christophe Galtier for racist comments made by Qatar coach Christophe Galtier.

Galtier attended hearings in Nice yesterday and Friday. French authorities accuse him of moral harassment and racial, ethnic and religious discrimination against Muslim players while coaching at Nice.

The “getfootballnewsfrance” website stated that the current head coach Duhaile went to court to defend himself and said in court: “If I made these remarks, they would be racist and discriminatory, but I did not make these remarks.”

After a nine-hour hearing, prosecutors ordered the French coach to be sentenced to 12 months in prison, suspended and fined 45,000 euros.

The prosecutor said during the trial: “I personally believe that football is the victim in this case and the French Republic is also a victim, so I ask the defense to declare Christophe Galtier guilty.”

Following these comments, Galtier’s lawyer responded: “Where is the evidence?”, while accusing those who published the leak of the French coach’s statement of brainwashing.

The judge is scheduled to make a final ruling in the case on Thursday.

Notably, the case broke out after Galtier’s former colleague, Nice sporting director Julien Fournier, published emails in which some of the French coaches made racist remarks about the club’s Muslim players.
